Date: 27th August 2016
Venue: Seminar hall. 3rd floor,2nd block

Ascii association conducted an alumni interaction on 27th august 2016 at the seminar hall, 3rd floor, 2nd block, Christ university, kengeri campus. Two of our erstwhile M.Tech students Nirmal Rayan working at medi assist and Chaitanya Krishna working at epicor software came down to the college to talk with our students. Audience consisted of M.Tech and third semester students of CSE and IT branch.

The event started with a silent prayer and soon Mr. Nirmal Rayan took over the proceedings with a presentation on how the industry works. He spoke on healthcare needs of the corporate sector and how medi assist(a health insurance facilitator) is helping reduce the cost per claim. He introduced the term TPA(third party administrator) which is nothing but an organization that processes insurance claims or certain aspects of employee benefit plans for a separate entity. He mentioned how medi assist is helping hospitals in paperless authorization/initiation of treatment in case of emergencies. He said most of the claims in the corporate sector are maternity related. Many of the companies are investing in reducing their employees health insurance costs by generating awareness of chronic illnesses and measures to prevent them.
He presented as assorted list of technologies such as java, python, hadoop etc that the students are expected to master in case they want to join such an industry.
Later, Mr. Chaitanya Krishna fielded questions from the audience who were basically interested in knowing whether they need to do any additional courses after graduation to become industry ready.
Chaitanya told the students about the importance of creating linkedin profiles and said the most preferred way of getting placed was through a reference. He also stressed that software testing is a much higher complexity job where you are not only expected to be a developer but have skills in writing test cases and automating the process too. He mentioned a scenario where there are a thousand test cases that need a report, which should not take long time to generate. He said he works on testing frameworks. Students asked if knowledge of machine learning algorithms and AI are necessary in software development.

On behalf of the university, management and faculty Dr Ganesh Kumar felicitated the two speakers and handed over a memento to them. Many students interacted with the speakers one-on-one after the talk was over. Feedback from the alumni was taken and the audience dispersed later.
